For those who don't know the name, first slap yourself, then think of classic songs like One Summer or Horses, as Daryl Braithwaite, who I had the opportunity of watching, is as much Australian as Ayers Rock itself.
I had the opportunity to see Daryl Braithwaite perform in Port Macquarie last week. I have always been a fan of his music, like many others. Watching Daryl perform with such passion was refreshing in this day and age. Gone are the days of big name rock bands, the names you here about now are usually one hit wonders, "puppet performers" with computer generated music. Even Daryl comically had a shot at Britney Spears about how she was caught lip-syncing and the audience walked out. Just think how the traditional performers must be embarrassed by the pop stars of the World. I could hear myself in the crowed yelling "Bring back rock", as if this wasn't enough to distinguish my age and boganess! But it's true, rock 'n' roll musicians are becoming an extinct breed. While I was watching Daryl and the band perform, I couldn't help feel like we are slowly losing music, or at least real rock 'n' roll.
Daryl coincidently is an avid bodyboarder, and I took the opportunity of introducing myself and inviting him for a surf. Although he declined - I believe he genuinely had other commitments - the way he humbly did, only re-enforced that this is a down-to-earth old school legend.
Legends like Daryl are becoming rarer as the years go on. If you have the chance to catch one of this near instinct breed doing their thing, I strongly suggest take advantage of the opportunity - soon you might not get a chance!
